Vélo Essex is a weekend festival of cycling that aims to encourage and inspire thousands of individuals of all ages and fitness levels to saddle up, get active and experience the thrill of cycling on traffic-free roads.
Delivered in partnership with Essex County Council, Vélo Essex forms an integral part of Active Essex’s four-year strategy to get 1 million people active within Greater Essex by inspiring, driving and sustaining participation in physical activity.
Featuring a 100 mile route, a shorter 50 mile route and a Free Family Ride, the event offers something for everyone! It’s the perfect way to explore the beautiful county of Essex on two wheels alongside thousands of friendly participants and enthusiastic spectators. We’re also hosting a ‘Vélo Village’ within Hylands Park that will feature cycling-themed activities, great food and drink, live Q&As, music and fun for all the family. Even if you’re not getting involved in the cycling action, make sure you round up your family and friends and soak up the celebratory atmosphere within this beautiful park!
With an estimated 15,000 riders expected to take part, the event will bring a number of socio-economic benefits to the county. In addition to showcasing the beautiful county of Essex to thousands of visitors, Vélo Essex will drive significant economic impact for the region, raise millions for a number of local and national charities, reduce road traffic pollution, promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transport and inspire thousands of Essex residents and cyclists from right throughout the UK to get active and take up the sport of cycling!
Vélo Essex is more than just an event – it’s a weekend celebration of cycling within Essex that EVERYONE is invited to enjoy. Whether you get involved in the cycling action, join our army of volunteers, throw a street party or get the little ones to give out high fives and jelly babies, it promises to be a truly memorable weekend for Essex.
