By choosing to camp you’ll be located just moments from the start line, with a guaranteed car parking spot and an easy and stress-free start to the event morning… not to mention an extra hour of beauty sleep!

Where is the camp site?

The camp site is located within Hylands Park, approximately 200m from the Vélo Village and 1km from the start line!

How much does it cost to camp?

If you’re purchasing a camping pitch to bring your own tent, camper van or caravan, this will cost £50. This includes, a 6x8m pitch for two adults and up to two children under 12 years. Within this space you can pitch your tent and park one vehicle or park your camper van / caravan.

If you wish to camp in a larger group or you have more than two children under 12 years, you can purchase additional passes for up to a total of six people per pitch. Additional passes cost £10 per person.

If you require an additional car parking space, other than that included in your pitch, these can be purchased for £20. Additional vehicles must be parked in the camp site car park which is located nearby.

We’ve also teamed up with Green Yurts to offer riders a range of premium, pre-erected camping options. From empty bell tents (where you bring your own sleeping gear) all the way up to fully kitted out yurts and everything in between, Green Yurts have options to cover all needs and budgets, so all you have to worry about is enjoying the big ride! Camping passes can be purchased through your Active account using the details created during registration and by clicking on the Purchase Merchandise button.

Who is able to stay in the camp site?

You need to be 18 years to be able to book camping at the event, although you are allowed to bring children under this age to camp with you.

If you bring children under 18 years, they must be accompanied at all times throughout the duration of the event.

How many people can I have in my group?

If you are purchasing a 6×8 pitch and intend to bring along your own tent, caravan or camper van, you can have a maximum of six people and one vehicle per pitch. Your camping pass entitles two adults and two children (under 12 years) to camp. If you have a larger group, you can purchase additional camping passes for your pitch, up to a total of six people.

If you are purchasing a pre-erected Bell Tent or Yurt from Green Yurts, you will be able to select an option that is the correct size for you and your party. Please note: you will not be allowed to exceed the number of people your Bell Tent or Yurt is advertised as sleeping.

Will the Camp Site be secure?

When you check in at the camp site, you and everyone in your group will receive a wristband. This will need to be worn at all times to allow you access to the camp site.

Whilst we will have security on the entrance, it is recommended that no valuables are left unattended on the camp site.

Are pets allowed on the camp site?

We have taken the decision not to allow pets onto the camp site. They are most welcome within the grounds of the park, however, not on the camp site.

How do I access the camp site on arrival?

Arrival and departure instructions will be provided to you nearer to the event.

When can I arrive and leave the camp site?

Check in to the camp site will be open from 08:00 – 20:00 on Saturday 19 September. You must arrive within this time.

Vehicle movement within the camp site will be prohibited from 22:00 on Saturday 19 September until 10:00 on Sunday 20 September. If you are travelling off site on Saturday evening and are returning after 22:00, you will then be required to park in the camp site car park.

Departure from the camp site will be possible from 10:00 – 20:00 on Sunday 20 September.

Are there set pitches and can I reserve a block together?

If you are bringing your own tent, caravan or camper van, the pitches will be marked out when you arrive. They will be approximately 8×6 metres and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

We are unable to save pitches for groups. If you wish to camp together, please arrive together.

What facilities will be available?

We will provide toilet and hand washing facilities as well as shower blocks. These will be based within the secure camping compound and for the use of those people that have booked to camp only.

Waste Disposal – There will be facilities available to dispose of domestic and chemical waste before your departure. Please ensure the camp site is kept tidy whilst enjoying your stay.

Drinking Water – There will be a drinking water supply available within the campsite.

Catering – There will be caterers on site in the Vélo Village on Saturday 19 September, 08:00 – 21:00 and on Sunday 20 September, 05:30 – 19:00.

If you are looking to find somewhere offsite to eat in the evening, please check out our Why Essex on the website.

Will there be electric hook ups?

No, there will not be electric hook ups in the camp site. We recommend bringing portable chargers with you and charging your personal items before arriving to the camp site.

What will I need when I arrive at Check In?

You will need to bring a copy of your Email Confirmation to check in. Your details will then be crossed checked as you enter the site. Without the email it will significantly slow down your check in process and might result in you not being allowed onto the site.

When you check in you will receive a wristband for the number of people in your party that you registered online – remembering that it is only one tent and six people (max) per pitch. You will need to wear this wristband for the duration of your stay so you can gain access into the camp site area.
